چکیده

Participative planning processes are being used to examine and determine appropriate strategies for the Lachlan catchment in central NSW Australia. However the inter-related impacts of planning decisions are not easy to unravel. A systems simulation modelling tool is being developed to allow the exploration of alternative environments and strategies. This paper examines the adaptive approach and discusses one sub-system in the model. This subsystem deals with the socio-economic issues that may be impacted by planning decisions. The regional implications for the population living in the catchment in terms of existing and future infrastructure, and its likely viability under differing scenarios is the issue of interest for this sub-system.

A major constraint to the application of any form of knowledge and principles is the awareness, understanding and acceptance of the knowledge and principles. Systems Thinking (ST) is a way of understanding and thinking about the nature of  health systems and how to make and implement decisions within health systems to maximize desired and minimize undesired effects. A major constraint to applyi...

Time to Shift from Systems Thinking-Talking to Systems Thinking-Action; Comment on “Constraints to Applying Systems Thinking Concepts in Health Systems: A Regional Perspective from Surveying Stakeholders in Eastern Mediterranean Countries”

A recent International Journal of Health Policy and Management (IJHPM) article by Fadi El-Jardali and colleagues makes an important contribution to the literature on health system strengthening by reporting on a survey of healthcare stakeholders in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) about Systems Thinking (ST). The study’s main contributions are its confirmation that healthcare stakeholde...

Constraints to Applying Systems Thinking Concepts in Health Systems: A Regional Perspective from Surveying Stakeholders in Eastern Mediterranean Countries

Background Systems Thinking (ST) has recently been promoted as an important approach to health systems strengthening. However, ST is not common practice, particularly in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). This paper seeks to explore the barriers that may hinder its application in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) and possible strategies to mitigate them.   Methods A survey consistin...

Incorporating Human Aspects into Groundwater Research and Policy Making : A Soft and Critical Systems Thinking Approach

Groundwater management issues present a serious challenge partly because of the complexity and uncertainty that human elements (i.e. cognitive, social, cultural and political) bring into the problem, as well as our limited capacity to fully comprehend and deal with such elements and their interactions with the biophysical systems. Whereas there is a wide recognition of the importance of stakeho...

Introducing suitable places for establishing rainwater catchment systems in Latyan Watershed

Arid and semi-arid regions with highly variable rainfall and periods of drought or unpredictable floods have severely affected residents' water shortages and they are often living in insecure areas. Rainwater catchment systems are one of the available solutions to overcome water shortage and runoff management in these areas. Surface runoff is a potential source of water that, with proper manage...
